Ariadne | Daughter of King Minos of Crete. Ariadne was travelling with the beloved Theseus from Crete to Athens and he left her in Amathus. Ariadne helped Theseus to kill the Minotaur and get out of the maze. Ariadne died while she was giving birth. Column | It consists of three parts. The lower part is called base. The long part that goes upwards is called stem. This part is straight and has a circular shape. The final part is called capital. Joust of the Quintana of Foligno | It is a horse race where 10 riders have to put their lance in the rings that hang from the statue. It takes place in Foligno 2 times a year. Foligno is a city located in Italy. | ![]() |

Palio | The Palio is a large decorated piece of cloth. The Palio is the prize that receives the Knight who wins the Quintana. Every year a different artist paints the Palio. | ![]() |

Quintana | The word Quintana comes from Latin and it means “five-road”. It is one of the roads of the Roman military camp. The soldiers of the Roman army trained on this road. The soldiers, riding their horse, had to place their lance into the ring hanging to the statue. Example of use: The Quintana was a road of the military camp where soldiers trained. | ![]() |

Campo de li Giochi” Track | The Joust of the Quintana of Foligno takes place in a track called Campo de li Giochi. Riding their horses, the knights have to ride through an eight-shaped track. At the centre of the track there is the statue of god Mars. The Statue holds some rings. The riders have to put their lance in the rings that hang from the statue. Example of use: The “Campo de li Giochi” is the track where the horse racing takes place. | ![]() |
